Sue McCreeth
Sue McCreeth, one of the most original and inventive vocal talents in the UK, has two critically acclaimed recordings, ‘500 miles high the air is blue’ and ‘Just for Luxury’. She has received tour funding and support from Jazz Services for three years running and works with the ‘consistently startling’ John Horler on piano and ‘an ‘A’ list UK bop rhythm section’.
Sue McCreeth started working professionally aged 18 freelancing with UK dance bands Bob Miller and the Brass Roots. She has a degree in Music from the University of Sussex and since then has worked both solo and as a band leader. In the late nineties she was working nightly as pianist/vocalist in the piano bars of luxury hotels in London’s west end and later in the Middle East. She returned to the UK in 2000 leading jazz quartets and working solo, when the south coast press described her work as ‘sumptuous’ and ‘astonishing’.
In 2002 Sue McCreeth released her debut CD, ‘500 miles high the air is blue’ and the great Dave Green ensured this reached the UK Press. A live review in the Guardian led to a debut tour of twenty dates throughout the UK supported by Jazz Services. She received recognition from press, + musicians and audiences for her originality and imagination, the beauty of her own writing and her ‘boldly punctuated’ arrangements of contemporary jazz compositions. In 2004 Andrew Cleyndert recorded her second CD, ‘Just for Luxury’, nurturing it from start through to a distribution contract with Proper Music Distribution in Spring 2005. 2006 sees McCreeth on her third Jazz Services UK Tour, including rebookings in Wales and Edinburgh and some dates being the third time booked to packed houses in as many years.
