Sue McCreeth Band
Autumn Tour 2003

The above band has received a Jazz Services National Touring Support Scheme grant for their new tour.

Line-up for the tour is:
Sue McCreeth (Vocals); John Horler (Piano); Dave Green/Andy Cleyndert (Bass);Matt Home/Steve Brown (Drums)

McCreeth mixes her original Corea-influenced groove and swing with an incisive take on standards. With echoes of Betty Carter and Flora Purim, and a nu-fusion vibe, she is being recognised as a unique vocal sound. This hauntingly beautiful original music with a strong jazz inflection has broad popular appeal. McCreeth has been building a reputation as a writer and band leader, particularly in London and the South Coast working with some of the UK’s most outstanding musicians.

John Horler (Piano)

John Horler was inspired by Bill Evans and Chic Corea, and has worked with a galaxy of American and British stars, such as Art Farmer, Chet Baker, Zoot Sims, Kenny Wheeler, Peter King and Tommy Whittle. He currently works with Johnny Dankworth and Cleo Laine as well as Acoustic Triangle together with Tim Garland.

Andrew Cleyndert (Bass)

Andrew has established himself as a highly versatile player, working with the cream of UK and visiting musicians including Bobby Wellins, Red Rodney, Bud Shank and Lee Konitz. He has toured with Benny Green and James Williams – with Drumming legend Ed Thigpen.

Dave Green (Bass)

Dave is the Rolls Royce of bass players, the one with whom every musician wishes to work. This explains why he is so busy! His sound, choice of notes and impeccable time reflect his vast experience and versatility: a bassist favoured by Coleman Hawkins and Sonny Rollins alike.

Matt Home (Drums)

Since leaving Leeds College of Music in 1994, Matt has been working with some of the UK’s top jazz musicians including Bobby Wellins, Don Weller, Tina May, Spike Robinson and Alan Barnes.

Steve Brown (Drums)

Steve was winner of the 1999 drum category and 2001 Rising Star category of the BT British Jazz Awards. Steve also currently works with Dave Newton, Alan Barnes and Stacey Kent.

‘a gently unconventional performer..an excellent trio..a rich mid-register…falsettos and deep purrs, payoffs on barely audible murmurs…calmly inventive…boldly ambitious…confessional whispers…a yearning McCreeth original…a deviously spliced demanding reshuffle…she has imagination and heart, and is certainly keeping the right company.’
John Fordham, The Guardian

‘a cool, misty kind of voice and a style which invites rather than insists on attention..with her own ‘Only Here’ and Chic Corea’s ‘500 miles high’ outstanding.’
Dave Gelly, The Observer

‘a beautiful piece of work..Ms McCreeth’s voice is simultaneously almost ethereal and sensuous and torchy as well. A small gem of creativity..subtle paraphrasing’
Brian Blain, Jazz UK

‘Superb, supportive musicians..swings like mad’
Geoff Amos, Jazz UK

‘My choice for jazz arrival of the year’
Dave Gelly, The Observer
